Your PC specs are fine for running Home Studio - I think some of the problems you've been having are not specifically related to your PC. I notice you say the Proteus XV was crashing MC - for what it's worth, when I close a Home Studio project that has Proteus in it, the program doesn't actually crash but for some strange reason I'm always informed that SONAR HS6XL has stopped working - I'm thinking 'I know, I just closed it!!' But as this hasn't happened with any project that doesn't have Proteus in it, I'm pretty confident that it's nothing to do with my Home Studio or Vista.

Don't think like that Annette - nobody grasps this stuff just like that - these days we are lucky enough to be using some very sophisticated software capable of creating pro results from the comfort of our own homes.
